Casting Directions

1. Dress hoof as normal. Fit shoe to shape allowing for additional thickness of casting tape.

 

2. Prepare outer hoof wall with rasp or alternatively sanding block or buffer. Additional cleaning is recommended with denatured alcohol or methylated spirit.

 

3. Apply acrylic adhesive to outer wall ensuring to use additional in the heel area, this will assist in locking the tape in.

 

4. Remove casting tape from the protective bag and proceed to wrap the hoof being careful not to tape above the coronary band or above the heel bulbs, approx. 6 rotations will use up half the roll. Allowing for two hooves per roll.

 

5. Dampen cast with a soaked sponge or spray bottle (this will activate the cast) then proceed to wrap with cling wrap. Place hoof on ground. 6. Proceed to second hoof and repeat the process. When completed, the first cast will be ready to have shoe nailed on. Clipped or unclipped shoes can be applied.
